Learning peace and purpose through the practice of forgiveness

Azim Khamisa chose the path of forgiveness after the senseless killing of his son.
Azim Khamisa chose the path of forgiveness after the senseless killing of his son.

Our committee is excited to have international speaker and award-winning author Azim Khamisa as the keynote speaker this year. Hailed by dignitaries such as the Dalai Lama and Thich Nhat Hanh, Khamisa began walking the path of forgiveness following the murder of his only son Tariq in 1995 through a senseless, gang-related incident. Khamisa chose the path of forgiveness and compassion rather than revenge, and this choice led to the establishment of the Tariq Khamisa Foundation (TKF) and his subsequent forgiveness work that has reached millions through his book, videos and international speaking events.

You will also enjoy Town Hall meetings brought to you by Rev. Dr. John Waterhouse, practitioners, laity, musicians, and our Global Services Team; an enlightening talk by our own Rev. Dr. Kenn Gordon, and you will have the opportunity to learn about visioning, mysticism, creativity, faith, and self-expression, all while enjoying the spectacular Monterey Coast. We have reduced our pricing this year! Find more information on our website at asilomar.csl.org or by calling me directly at 720-279-1646.

The 2014 Committee will consist of the 2014 Co-Chairs Dr. Michelle Medrano and Rev. John Scott, the 2015 committee chairs are Rev. Sherrie Quander and Dr. Petra Weldes, and the committee mentors are Dr. Pat Campbell and Rev. Marquita Pierre-McAlister, the practitioner member is Linda Watson, RScP, and the laity member is Paul Hietter.

Publishing Report

David Goldber, Publisher By David Goldberg, Publisher dgoldberg@csl.org

The highlights of the Publishing Department for the month include our Editorial Advisory Committee and new developments for Creative Thought magazine, as well as for our book translations.

Editorial Advisory Committee
The newly appointed Editorial Advisory Committee held its first conference call and Visioning in early April. This committee will advise the editorial staffs of Creative Thought and Science of Mind magazines on issues of editorial policy and content.

The Editorial Advisory Committee is made up of ministers, practitioners, and laity with experience and/or interest in the field of magazine publishing.  The current committee consists of Rev. Joel Fotinos and Dr. Maureen Hoyt (three-year terms); Rev. Norm Bouchard and Melanie Teixeira (two-year terms); and Eileen Flanigan and Rev. Marquita Pierre (one-year term).

Creative Thought magazine now on the web
For the first time, Creative Thought magazine has a web presence at CreativeThoughtmag.org where visitors will get an overview of the magazine and be able to subscribe.  As well, please visit the new Creative Thought  page on Facebook and “like” and “share” it!

Books available in Spanish, Swedish, & Portuguese
After many years of coordinating the translation of Science of Mind Publishing books, Rev. Margo Ruark is stepping more fully into other aspects of her ministry. We offer her our gratitude for her service and wish her the best in her new endeavors.  All of the translation work done under the Global Services umbrella has been moved inside Centers for Spiritual Living and is living in the Publishing Department.

We now have the following titles available:

The Science of Mind – 1938 edition – in Spanish and Swedish
This Thing Called You in Spanish
Creative Mind and Success in Swedish
How to Use the Science of Mind in Swedish
How to Speak Science of Mind in Portuguese and Swedish

A comprehensive list is being compiled and will be posted to the web site soon.
